| Our
logo presents an artist's depiction of essential aspects of haptics.
Haptic information
about our environment is sensed through the movement of our limbs
(depicted in the logo by the symbolic movement in depth of a hand) and
the stimulation of the skin (represented here by a stylized fingertip).
Haptic information
is captured through multiple sensory channels, for example, through
multiple points on the skin. We represent this by the morphing of several
points on the hand into the stylized fingertip.
Finally, multiple
properties of the environment are sensed through haptics. These include
the shape and texture of objects. The different elements
of the logo can be interpreted as representing the active exploration of
the shape and texture of an object through the movement of the hand: the
oval (stylized fingertip) would represent the object being explored.
We thank Immersion
Corp. for providing the haptic mice and software that were used
to design the haptic rendering. |
